What Is Wine Inventory Management?

Wine inventory management is the process of tracking what a restaurant buys, sells, holds, and needs to reorder, while also measuring whether the wine sitting in the cellar is actually performing.

A good system connects purchasing, invoices, sales, physical counts, bottle locations, costs, aging, and stock levels.

The goal is not simply to know how many bottles you own. It is to understand what those bottles are doing.

Which wines keep selling out? Which have not sold in six months? Where are you holding too much inventory? Where could you invest more?

Wine inventory is capital. Healthy management keeps that capital moving where it should, while allowing intentionally cellared wines to age when there is a strategic reason to hold them.
