When Is Slow-Moving Wine Worth Keeping?

Slow-moving wine is worth keeping when there is a deliberate reason for the bottle to remain in the program.

A wine may move slowly because it is intentionally aging, supports vintage depth, fills an important price position, serves a specific group of guests, or would be difficult to replace.

Those are strategic reasons to hold inventory.

Slow movement becomes more concerning when the bottle has no clear role.

An expensive wine that hasn’t sold recently may still be valuable to the program.

An ordinary wine sitting untouched for a year simply because nobody has reviewed it is different.

The question isn’t:

How long has this wine been here?

The better question is:

Why is this wine still here?

Age should trigger a review, not an automatic removal.
